Brentwood High School rising senior Jett Kinder made his name known on a global stage recently.

The track and field athlete placed second for the silver in the Pan American U20 games decathlon last weekend in San Jose, Costa Rica, for Team USA, with Cuba’s Yancarlos Hernandez Souchai earning the gold.

“I feel good about my performance. I survived and advanced, and that’s the decathlon,” Kinder said in a release.

“I came here to medal…my overall score wasn’t what I expected, but I medaled and that was my goal; I knew I could medal for Team USA.”

Kinder is the current Pentathlon High School National Champion and a two-time state decathlon champion.

His father and coach, Gary Kinder, was a former U.S. Olympic Team member for track and field (1988).

Team USA won the medal count at the Pan Am games with 85.
