Caroline Witt

Caroline Witt, daughter of Leigh Ann and Kevin Witt, is this week’s Athlete of the Week. She is a senior at Brentwood Academy and a member of the Girls Cross Country and Track & Field teams.

This season, Witt was a top runner for BA at TSSAA and was 22nd overall in the state. She placed 3rd in the region for the 1600-meter this year and the cross country team placed 6th overall for TSSAA.

She started cross country last year to join in with several of her friends. “I always ran on my own, but never competitively,” she said. “As I started training the summer before my junior year, I fell in love with the sport, the team and the races.”

When asked what inspires her to stay motivated in training and competing she said, “I work hardest for other people so whenever things get hard, I push myself for my team and coaches because I know they do the same for me.” She added, “I also always try to push myself to get better with each workout and race.”

Her top role model in life is long-distance runner and Olympic medalist Shalane Flanagan. “As a runner she was very underestimated and grew to become an Olympian who not only won medals, but truly loved the sport of running,” she said.

Witt describes herself as determined, hardworking, motivated and happy. When she’s not running, she spends her time doing competitive dancing, hiking, traveling and participating in her church’s youth group.

After graduating from BA, Witt plans to continue dancing in college. She is considering Texas Christian University, The University of South Carolina or Auburn University.
