The Ravenwood Raptors girls soccer team polished off a decisive win over district rival Centennial Cougars on Tuesday night, 6-2.
“Our team was very unselfish,” said Ravenwood head coach Brandon Mead. “We were able to get in a rhythm and find the back of the net.”
“They have a really powerful team this year,” added Centennial head coach Geraldo Caceres.
In the first half, Ravenwood’s offense turned up the heat, scoring three goals in the frame by senior Mia Fraser, junior Nora Henderson and senior Courtney Hill.
Centennial provided a spark for their offense by tallying a goal with eight minutes remaining in the half to make it 3-1.
Ravenwood put the pedal to the metal in the second half by driving in three more goals.
Two of their three goals were furnished by junior Marcella Forero and junior Maddie Gleason. The second goal of the half came from Hill.
“Courtney has been incredibly patient to get playing time this season,” said Mead. “She has made the most of every minute she has been out there. I am incredibly proud of her performance and character and the teammate that she is.”
In the final two minutes of the game, Centennial came back with a strike looped over the goalie’s head by junior Riley Baker, finishing the match 6-2.
“She has a really powerful leg and can score from anywhere on the field,” said Caceres.
Centennial will face district rival Franklin on Thursday night.
“I would love for them to move off the ball faster and score more goals,” said Coach Caceres.
Ravenwood will take on Rockvale on Senior Night Thursday.
“Senior night encompasses this great year and what it means for our seniors,” said Mead. “I feel like we have come together as a team. Just to celebrate this will be something special.”
