A study by a job search website ranked Brentwood as the most successful city in Tennessee.
The study by Zippia used data from the U.S. Census Bureau to calculate the rankings. It measured median income, unemployment rate and the proportion of adults with a college degree.
The company ranked cities by those categories, and then combined the data to create an overall measure of success.
According to the study, which used data from 2012 to 2016, Brentwood had a median income of about $148,000, and unemployment rate of 2.8 percent and about 71 percent of adults over 25 had a bachelor’s degree.
Brentwood did not crack the list of the 10 most successful cities in the U.S., as measured by Zippia. The company ranked Glencoe, Illinois as the most successful city in the nation.
Glencoe, located just outside Chicago, has a median income of about $185,000, an unemployment rate of 1.5 percent and about 87 percent of adults have a college degree.
The study didn’t take into account the cost of living in each city. According to the financial research company NerdWallet, the cost of living in Chicago is 27 percent higher than the Nashville area.
Palos Verdes Estates, California, part of the greater Los Angeles area, also made Zippia’s list. However, the cost of living in Los Angeles is 50 percent higher than Nashville.
