Nissan North America is dealing with more high-level turnover — this time in its sales organization, where a top sales executive who first joined the auto maker in 2001 is leaving.

Billy Hayes began his Nissan career in dealership retail roles and moved into human resources in 2008 before later taking on, among other things, global dealer network and zero-emission vehicle marketing roles.

After a year-and-a-half stint with a Toyota distributor, he returned to Nissan as vice president of divisional operations.

Just this spring, he was promoted to division VP of sales, a role that has had him leading sales operations and being the main point of contact for Nissan’s dealers.

Hayes told Automotive News he is “taking six months to figure out [his] next move.

The trade pub called him a key executive whose background has helped him manage the dealers’ rocky road of late, which has included Nissan sales falling nearly 8 percent year over year through July.

Preparing to fill Hayes’ shoes is David Kershaw, a 29-year Nissan veteran who has been VP of the company’s Southeast region. Kershaw’s move into his new role will become effective Sept. 1.
