Update (6:30 p.m., July 7, 2021): The Franklin Police Department has closed an investigation into a fake bomb that was found last week, confirming that the item was simply a prop from a church program that posed no threat.
FPD announced the update in a news release on Wednesday, and no charges will be filed in the incident that they called "unintentional."
"The Department will never take for granted our commitment to protecting our citizens, and will, without hesitation, do all we can to protect the safety of our community. We’re thankful that there was no danger nor ill-intent related to this incident," the news release reads.
Original Story (11:30 a.m., July 2, 2021):
Franklin Police Department detectives say they are investigating a "lookalike bomb" that was left in an outdoor trash can at the Williamson County Recreation Center on Fulton Greer Lane Tuesday.
The fitness center was evacuated, according to an FPD press release. The area was locked down as the Tennessee Highway Patrol Bomb Squad worked with Franklin Police to determine the device was fake.
The release says detectives have several leads and are offering a reward for information.
