Current Franklin Alderman Beverly Burger is leading all candidates in the Franklin election in fundraising — and by a lot.

Burger raised more than $26,000 between April 1 and June 30, according to campaign financial disclosures. She currently has $23,242 on hand for her Ward 1 Alderman race.

The next closest alderman candidate to raise money was her competitor, Michael Phillips, who currently has $2,487 on hand, according to campaign reports.

The Franklin election is on October 24 and early voting begins October 4. Candidates still have a chance to pick up petitions for the Ward 1, 2, 3 and 4 alderman races. Potential candidates have until noon next Thursday to qualify.

In the Ward 1 race, campaign records show that the alderman spent the majority of her money on campaign work and Web design. She also received $1,500 from former NASCAR driver Darrell Waltrip and another $1,500 from Waltrip’s wife, Stevie.

Her total expenditures this quarter were $2,910.

Another Ward 1 hopeful, J. Edward Campbell reported $500 cash on hand.

Ward 2 Alderman Dana McLendon did not turn in a report as of yet.

Ward 4 Alderman Margaret Martin, running currently unopposed, report $300 cash on hand.

In Ward 3 current Alderman Michael Skinner reported $393 cash on hand, while his competitor, Scott Speedy, reported having $278.
