The Tennessee Highway Patrol has confirmed that a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a Brentwood Police Department patrol vehicle just before 2 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Franklin Road and Longstreet Drive.

Anthony E. Peters, 45, of Pegram, was driving a motorcycle north on Franklin Road when he crossed a double yellow line in a construction zone and struck a southbound police car, according to information provided by the THP.

The driver of the police car, Brentwood Police Officer Seth Whitt, an 11-year veteran of the department, was taken to the hospital for examination after the accident and was found to be uninjured.

Brentwood Police Department Chief Jeff Hughes released a statement about the crash Wednesday evening.

“On behalf of the Brentwood Police Department, we would like to offer our condolences to the family of the motorcycle driver killed on Franklin Road today,” he said.

Peters was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to the THP.

Lanes on Franklin Road were closed in both directions for part of the afternoon due to the crash. Those lanes are back open.
