Three weeks after the Brentwood City Commission was unable to reach a majority in its mayoral vote, the seven-member board will take a new vote for mayor on Monday, June 10 at the meeting of the Board of Commissioners.
Three commissioners put their names in the hat for mayor: Mark Gorman, Rhea Little and Regina Smithson. Despite the seven rounds of voting which took place at the May 13 meeting, none of the candidates earned enough support to reach a majority.
As of Thursday, all three candidates remain on the ballot. The vote for mayor will be taken at the start of Monday’s meeting, directly following the Pledge of Allegiance.
Following the election of mayor, City Commissioners will hold three formal public hearings for the proposed FY 2020 budget, the proposed property tax rate and the Capital Improvements Program (CIP). The public is invited to attend the meeting and speak on behalf of any or all of these items.
The city held its first round of public hearings for these items at the May 28 meeting but saw no citizen input. The final public hearings for these items will be held at the June 25 meeting, upon which date the City Commission may take a vote on the items for adoption.
Also on the agenda for Monday’s meeting is an ordinance authorizing the transfer of surplus Woodway water tank property — which includes a parcel approximately one quarter acre in size — to the property owners impacted by the city property.
Commissioners also will hear a resolution authorizing an agreement for contracted services for the demolition of residential structural remains of a home located a 7 Medalist Court that was gutted by fire last August.
Finally, leaders will hear one more item of new business on which the Brentwood Fire and Rescue Department seeks approval from the City Commission to sell a surplus Chevrolet Tahoe SUV on an auction website. If approved, all auction proceeds will be deposited to the city’s general fund.
The City Commission meeting will take place on Monday, June 10 at 7 p.m. at City Hall, located at 5211 Maryland Way in Brentwood.
