Skylar Coffey’s tremendous junior campaign in wrestling and track/field earns him the Home Page’s designation for the 2019 Male Athlete of the Year for Brentwood High School.
Coffey’s 51-1 wrestling season left him a TSSAA state champion for Class AAA and a fifth-best national ranking for the sport. He was also a NHSCA All-American and won the 2019 WillCo Awards for Male Athlete of the Year and Boys Wrestler of the Year.
He also placed gold for the shot put and discus throw in the Spring Fling state competitions last month; the Bruins track and field team won the state title for Division 1 Large Class.
BHP spotlighted Coffey as one of our Athletes of the Week in December.
“I just want to be the best at what I do,” he said at the time. “That’s why I train hard. I want to be remembered as the guy who gave it his all and looked good doing it.”
He’ll spend one more season with Brentwood before pursuing an education to be a dentist, per our spotlight.
