Williamson County saw it's single largest drop in continued unemployment claims last week since the pandemic began in late March, with the number of residents receiving unemployment benefits dropping by 899 when compared to the previous week.

With the week ending on Oct. 3 seeing 2,534 continued unemployment claims in Williamson County, last week — the week ending on Oct. 10 — saw that number plummet down to 1,635.

The next largest drop in continued claims was all the way back in early June, with the week ending on June 6 seeing a 554 drop over the previous week.

Despite the new low in continued unemployment claims in Williamson, the county did see a slight uptick last week in the number of first-time unemployment claims.

With 204 Williamson residents applying for unemployment for their first time last week, the figure represents a slight increase of the previous week's number of 181.

Tennessee as a whole saw a similar trend, with last week showing the single largest drop in continued unemployment claims since the pandemic began.

Last week, a total of 90,507 Tennesseans were receiving unemployment benefits — a drop of 34,731 from the previous week's tally of 125,238. The next highest drop in continued claims was seen in late July, with the week ending on Aug. 1 showing a 18,304 drop in continued claims.

Much like Williamson County, Tennessee also saw a slight uptick in first-time claims despite the improved numbers with continued claims, jumping by 306 last week when compared to the week prior.
