Marie Kozich Gangaware of Brentwood, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Oct. 10, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family after an unrelenting battle against ALS.
Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on June 30, 1969 to Yvonne Louise Kozich and Stanley Charles Kozich, she has lived in Nashville since her freshman year at Hillwood High School.
After graduating from MTSU, she worked in banking and finance to support her life’s mission of cultivating and nurturing friendships. She married the love of her life, Kevin, in 2001 and they created a full life of family, friends and travel. She was fiercely loyal to her children, her family and her friends. Her passion and most important role was that of a mother to her two children, Ava and Matthew. That passion was evident in every birthday, childhood milestone and school event of her children for the past 14 years. Once her children started school at St. Paul Christian Academy, Marie’s love and passion for her children extended organically to their school. She became heavily involved with the school faculty and staff and embraced them as her extended family and in true St. Paul Academy fashion, they embraced Marie as part of their family. She loved that school unconditionally.
Marie also loved throwing and attending parties. She threw parties every holiday, birthday, graduation, confirmation, going away, coming home, lost a tooth, you name it. If it was worth celebrating, Marie was throwing a party for it. She was famous among her friends and their children for her party favors. Every family party wasn’t complete without lots of contests and games, prizes and favors. Making her family and friends smile and laugh was Marie’s lifeblood and gave her purpose.
Marie is survived by her husband, Kevin; daughter, Ava; son, Matthew; sisters, Kim, Cathy and Michelle; mother, Yvonne; father, Stan; stepmother, Zonell; and a numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Dr. Davis Chappell will lead a service to celebrate Marie’s life at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 at Brentwood United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from noon until time of the service. There will be a private burial at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Marie may be made to St. Paul Christian Academy, Alive Hospice or The ALS Association.
