As we are into the New Year, some clients have been inquiring about the following ‘hot’ trends.

New colors and projects like backsplashes are trending as a focal point and stretching from counter to ceiling. Kitchens are anchored with floating shelves and range hoods for a very clean line look.  Yep, color is back in a big way this year.

For trends in our Middle Tennessee market, I’ve turned to Jamie Watford of JW Nash & Co. for her expert advice.

She says some are wanting color in their dining rooms or library rooms. Typically the assertive colors are used in a smaller closed space, not in an open floor plan. Navy and shades of forest greens are quite lovely in those spaces. Some people are painting the trim and molding all the same color for a dramatic flair. It might be fun to add a pop of black into kitchens, on the island, butler’s pantry. There are so many different shades of black. If the house is home to little ones, black hides scuff marks … so, you can toss the touch-up paint. The classic color pairs very lovely with white walls, if they are on the cooler or warmer side of the white spectrum.

Jamie also mentioned that another trending ‘pop’ of color by using the ceiling as the 5th wall.   Wallpaper has been ever so popular this year so far. If you’re nervous to take the plunge, start with a small space like your powder room, laundry room, dining room, study or foyer.  Wallpaper comes in all textures, prints and colors. Grass cloth is a nice subtle way to add texture to any room. Grass cloth is a timeless, classic that is making a big comeback.
