student of the week

Betsy Spurgeon

Betsy Spurgeon, daughter of Elizabeth and Michael Spurgeon, is a senior at Brentwood Academy and this week’s Student of the Week.

She is on the Headmaster’s List and a member of National Honor Society and Governors School for Science and Engineering.

Spurgeon said her biggest passions are civic engagement and policies in her community. “I believe that being involved in service and leadership is an important part of being a citizen,” she said.

Her number one role model and inspiration is Marie Curie, a legendary physicist and chemist. “She was able to do incredible radioactivity research and overcome the challenge of being a woman in science as well,” she said.

Her favorite class at BA is AP European History with Mrs. Stewart. She said she enjoys the challenges in the class and how engaging Stewart is as a teacher.

When she’s not in class, Spurgeon enjoys being the Varsity Basketball Manager as well as participating in Youth in Government and acting in school plays.

After graduating, she hopes to go to medical school to become a neurosurgeon.
