Tom and Lois Adkinson hosted a party to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at Homegrown Tap Room, where guests enjoyed barbecue and bluegrass.
The invitation sent out by the Adkinsons featured a photo of them on their wedding day. In lieu of gifts, it was suggested guests donate to Second Harvest Food Bank.
On display at the party was Lois Adkinson’s wedding dress, which was white with appliquéd purple bearded iris. A yellow dress worn to the wedding by Tom Adkinson’s sister also was on view. Each of these ladies can fit into their respective dresses to this day.
For the wedding, Tom Adkinson donned a powder blue tux coat and a shirt with ruffled sleeves, a look that was popular in the 1970s.
The delicious menu included: bacon popcorn, pulled pork, mixed green salad, broccoli and cranberry casserole, cheese quesadillas, and cupcakes. An anniversary cake baked by Tommie Allen, who owns Tommie Cakes, featured white icing accented with tiny irises, which are Lois Adkinson’s favorite flower.
After dinner, everyone enjoyed bluegrass music performed by some of the guests, including two full sets from Russ & Becky Jeffers and Smoky Mountain Sunshine.
Also performing was well-known Nashville musician Les Kerr, who combines blues, New Orleans music, Zydeco, rock and bluegrass to create his “Hillbilly Blues Caribbean Rock & Roll.”
