Eight-time state champion Brentwood High will return to TSSAA volleyball for the first time in four years, and defending champ Ravenwood will go for a three-peat after the District 11-AAA rivals both won sectionals Thursday.

District tournament champ Ravenwood, runner-up in the regional and regular season to BHS, went on the road to Clarksville to beat Rossview 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-18).

Brentwood’s Lady Bruins, whose only two in-state losses are to RHS, swept Mt. Juliet at home 3-0 in its match to also advance into the Class AAA bracket.

Lady Bruins volleyball team celebrates making state first time in their high school careers.

Sarah Tuttle had 12 kills and served four aces for the Bruins, while Hunter Thompson made 27 assists and also aced four serves.

Samantha Cotton added eight kills and Kelly Severino three. Alexis Spahn had 14 digs and three aces, and Kaela Massey had a block and three aces. Ashley West also scored on a block.

“It has been a great journey for us,” Brentwood Coach Barbara Campbell said. “We are looking forward to the gold at the end of the rainbow.”

BHS will open against Bartlett in Wednesday’s 9 a.m. match at Siegel High School. The Bruins either will advance into the winners bracket semifinals at 3 p.m., or play an elimination game at 6 p.m.

Ravenwood was led by 18 kills by junior Kat Hutson, last year’s state tourney MVP. Taylor Briggs had 34 assists, and Emily Svennevik served four aces.

The Lady Raptors start Class AAA state tourney play at Siegel at noon against Bearden. A victory would put RHS into the 4:30 p.m. winners bracket semifinal, and a loss would drop the Raptors into a 7:30 p.m. elimination game.

Thursday’s AAA action moves to Middle Tennessee State University’s Court 2, and the championship will be at 6 p.m. Friday night at Murphy Center.

Page High School, the two-time state Class AA champ, gives Williamson County at least three teams competing at state. Private schools Brentwood Academy and Battle Ground Academy both play in the DII-AA state quarterfinals this Saturday, BA at Baylor and BGA at St. Benedict, for spots in next week’s Murfreesboro tournament.
