Franklin High School will look back to a former coach and school Hall of Famer to lead its girls basketball program.

Jay Johnson, who has recently served in the role of the school’s athletic director, will replace John Wild as the new coach of the Lady Rebels, the school announced.

“We are excited to have Hall of Fame Coach Jay Johnson returning to the sidelines as the our new Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach,” FHS assistant principal Toby Ruth said in a release.

“Coach Johnson has always been a Rebel from his high school days to now. His community connections and his years of experience make him the perfect person to take over the program.”

Johnson was a member of the school’s 1989 state title team and served for 10 seasons as the head coach of the Rebels basketball team. He stepped away from that role in 2013 and remained at Franklin in other capacities.

Wild departed last month to take the vacant position at Summit High School.

The Rebels basketball team is still looking for a new coach after Darrin Joines left the position earlier this week to join Williamson County School as the new district athletic director.
