The Franklin Road Academy Panthers were stuck in a rut with about four minutes to go to half, down 30-6 on the road to favored Notre Dame.
Though, the Chattanooga trip would not be in vain for FRA, who scored two times before the halftime buzzer sounded on a Brogan Wilson run and Sean Casey-to-Riley Speed touchdown play after an opposing kickoff fumble to get within 30-20.
They would wind up holding the home team scoreless in the third and outscored the Irish 14-3 in the fourth to score an upset 34-33 victory to advance in the playoff bracket to the semis.
Casey connected with Speed on a 98-yard bomb in the last quarter to help ensure the Panthers victory. Speed also had a 80-yard touchdown return early in the game to get FRA first on the board. That put him at three scores on the night.
Wilson rushed another one in late to get the Panthers the final lead, which gave him two touchdowns.
The win sets up FRA with a quicker trip next Friday, as they’ll head to Battle Ground Academy to face off against the host Wildcats for the semifinals of the 2018 Division II Class AA State Tournament.
BGA defeated Webb on the road 30-10 to advance.
The winner of that will face one of CPA, Lausanne or Evangelical Christian for the state title.
