Summit High School will see one of its talented linebackers play at a service academy.

Rising senior linebacker Jaylen Herrud announced over the weekend his intent to commit to Navy to play college football.

“I am honored to say that I am committed to the United States Naval Academy,” he said in his Twitter announcement, thanking God, his parents, his other family and friends his Summit coaches for the accomplishment.

He also indicated he had other offers on the table from college programs.

Herrud transferred from Father Ryan last season and was a part of a Spartans team that exited the first round of the playoffs last season.

Summit has a former athlete soaring with Navy’s basketball program in John Carter Jr.

A fellow WillCo football alum, Nolensville’s Colton Dooley, joined Army after his 2018 senior season.

Herrud return to the field for his final season with Summit this month.
