It took four intense quarters and a dramatic overtime finish for Brentwood High School to win its home opener against D-II AAA titan Montgomery Bell Academy, but the Bruins got the job done.
Quarterback Cade Granzow ran in the game-winning score in extra football to give Brentwood a major 9-6 victory over MBA Friday night to star the year.
Only kicker Thomas Day would give Brentwood points to matter in regulation, with the game being tied 3 all going into OT. Brentwood’s defense held MBA to a field goal then, and Granzow helped lead a drive to close things out and get the Bruins a key non-region victory against the D-II program.
Granzow threw for 122 yards on 13/24 attmepts, and rushed for 43. Running back Luke Walters led in the ground game with 45, and wideout Walker Merrill led receivers with six receptions for 52 yards.
After the big MBA win, the Bruins will try their luck at Class AAA foe Cane Ridge on the road next Friday.
