Battle Ground Academy wide receiver Marcus Cawthorne is the Newk’s player of the week after scoring three touchdowns in Friday’s 35-19 win over Friendship Christian School.

His first touchdown came on a 17-yard pass from Clay Beathard to tie the game at seven with 7:04 left in the second quarter.

Cawthorne later scored on touchdown passes of 51 and 57 yards in the final four minutes of the game to seal the victory for the Wildcats.

He finished the contest with four receptions for 136 yards and 35 rushing yards.

BGA (2-0) visits St. Benedict at Auburndale (1-1) on Friday.

Seth Huner, Independence WR: Had eight receptions for 115 yards and three touchdowns in Friday’s 49-6 rout of Centennial.

Andrew Bunch, Independence QB: Completed 14-of-21 passes for 224 yards, four touchdowns and one interception, and carried the ball six times for 52 yards and a score.

Clay Beathard, Battle Ground Academy QB: Passed for 288 yards and four touchdowns against Friendship Christian.

Lannom Craddock, Franklin RB: Rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries in Friday’s 34-20 win over Riverdale.

Jacob Stoney, Independence LB: Recorded 17 total tackles (9 solo), five tackles for loss and two interceptions.

Tai Carter, Summit RB: Had 95 rushing yards, 41 receiving yards and three total touchdowns (1 receiving) in 36-21 win over Clarksville Northwest.
